effect of clonidine premedication on blood loss in spine surgery

conclusions as an oral premedication, clonidine can reduce surgical blood loss in lumbar spine posterior fusion surgery, even at the same levels of mean arterial pressure (map) with the control group. its use can be studied in more complicated spine surgeries, such as scoliosis and spinal deformity surgeries. results there was no statistically significant difference between groups in age (p = 0...

Effect of Clonidine Premedication on Blood Loss in Spine Surgery

BACKGROUND Blood loss in spine surgery is an important issue, even though it has been understudied compared with hip and knee arthroplasty. OBJECTIVES In this study, we evaluated the effect of oral clonidine as premedication on blood loss in lumbar spine fusion surgery under anesthesia with propofol and remifentanil. PATIENTS AND METHODS In this double-blind, randomized clinical trial, 30 p...

[Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring in spine surgery].

Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) makes it possible to determine the status of neurological function during surgery. It guides the surgeon and minimises the risk of injury. This paper describes the different techniques available for IONM in spine surgery (somatosensory evoked potentials, motor evoked potentials, neurography, electromyography, reflexes and dermatomic evoked pot...

Comparison of Effects of Labetalol and Nitroglycerine on Intraoperative Blood Loss and Surgical Field Quality in Rhinoplasty Surgery

BACKGROUND Rhinoplasty is one of the most common surgeries of the plastic surgery and as well as ear, throat and nose. Intra-operative bleeding during surgery is one of the most important factors that may impair the surgeon’s job. Providing a clean blood-free surgical filed makes the operation faster, easier and with a better quality. One way to achieve this goal is to induce hypotension. This...

Reducing perioperative blood loss and allogeneic blood transfusion in patients undergoing major spine surgery.

At present, individual techniques, including intraoperative acute normovolemic hemodilution, use of tranexamic acid, use of intrathecal morphine, proper positioning, and modification of operative techniques, seem most promising for reducing perioperative blood loss and allogeneic blood transfusion in patients undergoing major spine surgery. Other techniques including preoperative autologous pre...
